Cold or low-intensity lasers were first used in the United States to soothe joint and muscle pain. When used in this way, doctors and patients noticed significant loss of fatty deposits in the areas treated. Surprised, the manufacturers of these machines began scientific studies in order to understand how this came about. They proved beyond reasonable doubt that adipocytes (fat cells) are emptied when the specific wavelength of these low-energy lasers is directed onto them.

A pleasant way to lose weight quickly

Completely non-invasive and without risk, this laser gives a gentle and pleasant warm feeling when applied. The skin does not need to be prepared beforehand. However, before treating the patient, the doctor will carry out a skin examination to ensure that the skin is not damaged. The doctor defines which areas are to be treated along with the patient, discusses the aims with regard to volumes, and gives lifestyle and dietary advice. They generally take measurements and photos of the area(s) to be treated so that the patient can objectively assess the treatment’s results.

The patient is invited to lie down on a comfortable bed, if possible in a relaxing environment. The doctor then positions two elastic Velcro bands on the areas to be treated (4 maximum), placing the therapeutic pads onto the skin and fixing them in place using the bands.

Two supplementary pads are then placed on the nearest lym- phatic drainage zones to the treatment area.
The session lasts 20 minutes and is a rather pleasant experience, with no pain, just a relaxing warm feeling.

If there is a large amount of fat to lose, 5 extra minutes can be added, although the session must not last any longer than 25 minutes.
Once the session is over, the doctor removes the Velcro bands and pads in order to sterilise them before their next use.

If necessary, they will perform a surface skin examination and take new measurements in order to record the slimming pro- cess, coupled with photos of the areas treated.
Our latest study recorded an immediate loss at the end of the first session of 1.5 cm around the thighs in 20 patients, 3 cm around the abdomen in 19 patients and 2 cm off the hips of 14 patients.

Depending on the slimming effect desired, 3 to 5 sessions are required, with a maximum of two sessions per week. The slimming effect is reinforced and increased as the sessions progress, depending on the patient and the areas treated. The Tinaka® is suitable for both men and women.

The Tinaka® cold laser acts on the figure, not excess weight

Low intensity lasers do not always cause weight loss. Instead they reshape the figure by emptying the fat stored in the adi- pocytes of the areas treated. In the case of excess weight, and in order to consolidate the results, patients are advised to take regular exercise, eat healthily and drink enough fluids (at least 1.5 litres of water and/or unsweetened herbal tea per day).

Contraindications and side effects

Patients with sensitive skin may notice a slight redness on the skin of the area treated. This will fade quickly after the session. People with a high skin phototype or deep tan, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and people with skin diseases, chronic illnesses, a pace-maker or metallic implant should not undergo this treatment.
